The Kevelaer Guitar Quartet is an ensemble led by Kevelaer guitarist and guitar teacher Markus Birkhoff. The participating guitarists Erik Tutsch, Paulina Heinrichs, and Florian Walter have won awards at several state and national competitions organized by Jugend Musiziert, as well as at the Weimar Guitar Competition.
The ensemble's unique sound is achieved through the use of a wide variety of Hauser guitars from the entire family dynasty, some of which were provided by the Hermann Hauser Guitar Foundation. The range extends from the 1916 Viennese model to Segovia models to the terz guitar and a quint bass guitar, played by Michaela Birkhoff.
Markus Birkhoff completed his concert exam at the Robert Schumann University of Music and, in addition to his teaching activities, continues to be artistically active with concerts, radio and television productions, and the production of several CDs.
The guitar quartet is praised for its beautiful sound and soulful performances.
