The twin sisters Anne Baumbach (flute) and Thea Baumbach (guitar) were born in Magdeburg in 1990 and gained international attention by winning awards at international chamber music competitions. In 2021 they won the first prize at the first "International ligita Competition Guitar Plus 1".
In February 2020, the Baumbach duo graduated with honors from the Franz Liszt Academy of Music with a concert diploma in chamber music. Concerts have already taken the duo to Denmark, the Czech Republic, Portugal, Italy, and by the recommendation of composer Léo Brouwer to Greece.
The duo places a special emphasis on collaboration with composers, which has already resulted in new works for the duo. These include works by composers Thomas Nathan Krüger, Peter Helmut Lang, Eunsung Kim, František Lukáš, and Erik Højsgaard.
In 2017, the sisters released their debut album, legenden, on QBK Records. A feature on the duo in MDR Kultur's Next Generation series appeared in October of the same year.
Thea Baumbach also completed her master's degree in Weimar. Anne Baumbach completed her master's degree with distinction at the Hochschule für Musik Basel.
